Independent marine surveyor matching
Marine surveys across Malta

Find the right marine surveyor for your boat in Malta

Request an independent marine surveyor in Malta for a yacht or boat purchase, insurance, valuation, damage or specialist assignment. Matching starts with the harbour or yard, vessel size and construction, haul-out access and whether the work is private or requires a Malta flag, code or class appointment.

One request, matched to the actual job

A pre-purchase inspection is not the same assignment as a tonnage measurement or commercial-code survey. We keep the scope clear from the beginning.

How it works

A practical route from request to inspection

The platform helps structure the enquiry and introduce suitable professionals. The selected surveyor remains responsible for agreeing scope, fee and terms with you.

1

Tell us about the yacht

Share the vessel, survey purpose, location, timing and any buyer or registry deadline.

2

We review the scope

We check geography, material, size, specialist needs and whether formal acceptance matters.

3

Receive a suitable introduction

Where available, we connect you with a surveyor whose stated capability fits the assignment.

4

Appoint independently

You compare the scope and terms, resolve conflicts and instruct the professional directly.

Important distinction

Professional membership is not automatic flag approval

For pre-purchase and condition work, competence, experience, insurance and independence are central. For tonnage, registration, coding or statutory work, the flag or accepting organisation may also require a specific appointment.

Maltese survey locations

Plan the survey around Malta’s concentrated yacht and repair market

Malta offers major marinas and repair facilities within a compact area, but access, lift capacity and permissions vary by yard. Confirm the exact berth or facility, vessel dimensions, required report and any flag or commercial-code route before attendance.

Grand Harbour

Valletta · Vittoriosa · Senglea · Kalkara · Cospicua

A central yacht, superyacht and repair area. Confirm security, contractor access, lift or dock booking and responsible yard contact.

Marsamxett Harbour

Sliema · Msida · Ta’ Xbiex · Manoel Island

A dense leisure and brokerage market. Berth access, haul-out location and sea-trial arrangements should be fixed before appointment.

South & southeast Malta

Marsaxlokk · Birżebbuġa · Delimara

Leisure and commercial facilities require the precise port and permission route. Do not assume access from proximity to Valletta.

North Malta

St Paul’s Bay · Mellieħa · Ċirkewwa

Smaller marinas and bays may need a separate haul-out facility. Confirm how the vessel will be presented for inspection.

Gozo

Mġarr · Gozo marinas and yards

Treat Gozo as a separate travel assignment. Ferry timing, local lifting and any visiting specialist costs should be agreed first.

Frequently asked questions

Before you appoint a marine surveyor

What information is needed for a Malta yacht survey quote?

Provide the exact marina or yard, vessel details, construction, purpose and date. Include facility access, haul-out, sea trial and any Malta flag, insurer, lender, code or class requirement.

Is a pre-purchase survey the same as a Malta flag or commercial-code survey?

No. A private buyer’s inspection is separate from statutory or code work. Transport Malta states that commercial-yacht code surveys may require an Appointed Government Surveyor or Recognised Organisation.

Can the same surveyor inspect the yacht and complete formal certification?

Only if the professional has the required appointment for that vessel and task. Private-survey competence and formal authority must be checked separately.

Can a surveyor attend in Gozo?

Potentially, but ferry travel, local yard capability and specialist equipment should be confirmed. Provide the exact Gozo location and presentation of the vessel.

Are yard, haul-out and sea-trial costs included?

Only when expressly included. Yard access, lift or dock, wash, relaunch, skipper, fuel, travel and specialist testing can be separate.

Who appoints the marine surveyor?

The client appoints the independent surveyor directly and agrees scope, fee, timing and terms. Malta Marine Survey provides information and introductions only.

Can you help with other specialist marine survey assignments?

Potential assignments include large-yacht refit supervision, commercial-yacht code work, repair inspections, sea trials & delivery acceptance, rig, mast & sailing-system inspections, machinery diagnostics, ultrasound, moisture & corrosion, on-hire, off-hire & warranty surveys. Availability depends on the location, vessel and required specialist capability or formal appointment.
